Fundraising for Asylum Seekers

Story

I'm making a difference for asylum seekers in Australia by fundraising for Asylum Seekers Resource Centre (ASRC), who provide urgently needed aid and medical care for asylum seekers.

Here's what I'm doing - 45 DAYS OF BIKRAM YOGA (HOT YOGA) at Bikram Yoga Fitzroy (from 18 April 2013  to 2 June 2013)

The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre is Australia’s leading asylum seeker organisation. They are a multi-award winning, independent and non-federal government funded human rights organisation. They work at the coalface assisting some of the most disadvantaged people in our community.

Under the one roof you will find an extraordinary centre with only 32 full time staff and more than 750 volunteers. The ASRC delivers services to over 1,200 asylum seekers at any one time through programs such as material aid, health, legal, counselling, casework and foodbank. In the ASRC's first 8 years alone they assisted over 7000 people seeking asylum, provided more than 1 million hours of free help and turned no one in need away. For more information about ASRC programs see: http://www.asrc.org.au/programs/

All of this achieved without a single dollar of Federal Government funding and with more than 95% of their funding coming solely from the community and philanthropy. The ASRC does it all from direct aid, welfare, medical care to strengthening families and communities through community development to campaigning for social change.

How Your Money is Spent

$500 Will pay for an hour of legal assistance to 50 destitute asylum seekers

$1000 Will fund our community meals program for 1 month to provide 3000 meals to asylum seekers

Please help me make a difference by supporting me with a donation, big or small. EVERY CENT COUNTS!

Thank you!

ASRC Footscray (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre)

The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement.

As an independent not for profit organisation, we are owned and run by our community. Our programs empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well-being. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia.

We assist over 7,000 people seeking asylum each year from our centres in Footscray and Dandenong, Victoria.
